Description
The Channel Islands Black and White surfboard.
Introducing the latest thoroughbred from the Channel Islands surfboards stable. The Black and White is a surfboard for a decent surfer in good quality waves from chest high to well overhead.
The Black and White is loosely based on a favourite hand-shaped board that Britt Merrick made Dane Reynolds for point breaks and nice wally waves in and around the Santa Barbara area. The overall shape and set-up is designed to deliver down-the-line speed along with rapid rail to rail surfing and the ability to excel in and around the pocket. Dane likened the feel to the legendary M-BM that was shaped for Bobby Martinez back in 2004; a board that proved very popular for good surfers in quality waves for the next 5 years.
Getting down to the nitty-gritty; the Black & White has a fairly shallow entry rocker, a pretty flat section between the feet, with an emphasised kick out the tail to keep it loose in the pocket. A single concave runs from nose to tail blending into a slight V out through the tail block which gives the B&W it’s down-the line speed.
Full rails and a flat deck design, offers improved flex characteristics, along with a nice ‘planted’ feel under the feet.
Although not set-in-stone, CI suggest riding the Black & White the same as your height, or up to 2″ longer depending on your own personnel requirements. Britt also says that you can ride the board 1/8 or 0.125 thinner than your regular shortboard because the flatter deck conceals a little extra foam.
If you’re looking for a go-to shortboard for good days at your home break, or a travel board for good quality surf in places like Morocco or indo the Black & White ticks all the boxes.
