Description

The Thunderbolt Outlier X designed by CJ Nelson, what a beaut! The mini mid length style board represents the next step in surfboard evolution, all the paddle skills of a mid length but with added functionality and performance.
The new OUTLIER X is CJ and Thunderbolt’s answer to the performance egg. Sometimes you just need the board to do more of the work for you; the OUTLIER X will paddle and catch waves with ease and perform like a modern day hybrid shortboard. The rolled entry rocker helps the board trim and avoid unnecessary pumping while the performance rails and rocker still pivot and turn with a little bit of release when needed. The outline has a constant curve paired with a modern rocker, which helps the board ride and feel like a much shorter board. A reliable all rounder that flies in poorer conditions but still performs in bigger surf. The only limit size wise is your ability! The Outlier X stands a notch above other eggs and funboards out there and carries the DNA of the longer Outlier which has been a hugely popular board. We are very excited to bring you the Outlier X, the mini version which will deliver a high wave count, fun but all in a smaller package. If you normally ride a longboard or shortboard, and don’t have a mid length in your quiver you are of course missing out but this new mini mid length concept bridges the gap for those who don’t fancy a conventional mid length. If you already surf a mid length surfboard but want a more responsive surf without going back to a shorter board then this is the way to go.
When CJ was asked what the downside of Thunderbolt Technology was he answered…”There is no downside, or I wouldn’t be riding them 90% of the time. In fact the only time I ride wooden stringers is when I’m doing R&D with Eden Saul or Ryan Engle or Wayne Rich or Ian Chisholm or others”.
The Outlier X mini mid length is constructed using ‘Thunderbolt Red’ a 100% hand layup Xeon Fibreglass Lamination which delivers a competition weight and flex surfboard. Thunderbolt Red uses a Fused Cell EPS Foam Blank which incorporates a Carbon Fibre Multi-Component Flex Control System which replaces a traditional wooden stringer which along with the Xeon Fibreglass lamination delivers a familiar flex which will remain for the extended lifespan of these durable boards. Thunderbolt Red uses a 6 + 4oz fibreglass deck lamination with 6 + 2oz on the bottom. The Fused Cell EPS Foam Blank is wrapped in a Core Shield PVC Shell which affords flexible protection to the EPS core.
These boards are 100% hand layups and finished to the very highest standard, and it’s worth remembering that the board you buy from us is exactly the same as CJ is riding in all those mouth watering video’s!
