The Explorer is Union’s splitboard specific binding. It stands out with its nylon baseplate, offering more forgiveness and riding comfort, where other brands such as Plum or Karakoram rely on stiffer aluminium baseplates. The high back and straps offer support while remaining pleasant to ride, the whole offers a nice balance between performance and accessibility. This binding allows to descend at a good pace or ride casually. The switch from hike to descend mode is done via a pin system. A good binding to discover splitboarding, but not as suitable as other models for more serious long high-altitude tours.
